Recorded in 2016, this webinar features Matt Phillips chatting with the inspirational Laurie Villarreal, founder of Netherlands based running community ‘House of Running‘.
I had the pleasure of meeting Laurie at one of my workshops, it was immediately apparent that this was no ordinary running coach. Her devotion to staying up to date with evidence based training in order to deliver the best experience possible to her running community was obvious, as summed up wonderfully on the website: “House of Running – a community of runners who inspire each other to do the extraordinary; we’re wild about running and serious about fun.”
Laurie talked to me about how as a long distance runner in her her early 20s, she found herself struggling to find her place among the groups of super-speedy or uber-competitive types. She believed that running could be fun, social and accessible to everyone, not just the super-serious and super-fit athletes, and wanted to train with others who ran for health and didn’t take running too seriously: “When I couldn’t find my tribe, I decided to start my own. A few years later, House of Running was born.” Though our initial plan of taking my workshop to Amsterdam didn’t evolve, I sincerely hope to visit one day!
