When Chris Johnson PT asked me to have a chat with him about my recent trip to Nairobi, Kenya I was very happy to do so. Of all the therapists and coaches out there today offering information for runners and triathletes, Chris sits at the top of the pile with a handful of others. He has a HUGE library of excellent running exercise & drill videos on both YouTube and Vimeo, two fantastic websites www.chrisjohnsonpt.com and www.zerenpt.com, plus an awesome online running community called The Runner’s Zone with member therapists & coaches from all over the world. Chris has also just released his first e-book ‘Running On Resistance – A Guide To Strength Training For Runners‘ which contains not only fifteen chapters on exercise prescription & programming but also access to over seventy five videos and sample programmes. It’s an exceptional book which I recommend to all runners, triathletes, coaches and therapists.
So, in what is the third webchat I have done with Chris, he asks me about my involvement with the new company which will soon be providing runners of East Africa with a fantastic, evidence based running hub in Gigiri, Nairobi, offering the same level Gait Analysis we provide at StrideUK, Running Footwear, Coaching, Strength Training, Physiotherapy and much more.Check out Sportinjurymatt's webchat with Chris Johnson PT about Matt's recent trip to Kenya #runningwithkenyans Click To Tweet
I also talk about the opportunity I had to join a running group in the beautiful Karura Forest (hence the title ‘Running With Kenyans’ – original, huh!) under the guidance of legendary Kenyan running coach Jimmy ’Simba’ Beauttah, chief trainer at the IAAF Kip Keino High Performance Training Centre in Eldoret. As coach to elite runners such as Abel Kiprop, Moses Kiptanui and Daniel Komen, Coach ‘Simba’ has over his thirty years involvement in Kenyan running produced eight World Championship medals, three Olympic medals and two Commonwealth Games medals. Needless to say, it was an absolute pleasure to chat and above all listen to him.
We hope you enjoy our chat (video is below). Be sure to watch all the way to the end of the video when Chris and I wrap things up with a brief discussion about giving out profiles for Tinder and Grindr… (?)
